Bald Darby

Well - the hectic-ness of the past few months took its toll on my grooming time & energy - resulting in one matted Setter. So last week I dug out my clippers and took it all off! It's a bit of a hack job - but after a bath (waiting for a warmer day), I will try to smooth it out a bit. Should grow in nicely for spring.

I think she feels better ....

  1. Allison, I'm thinking (and this is very much at the THINKING stage and DON'T tell the kids otherwise I'll have no peace...) of getting a dog.

We have a guinea pig, but they don't play with her much - too placid. I had suggested we might get a second gp or else have this one have babies, but I'm thinking what's the point of having a second animal that wouldn't get played with much? Tho' if we did get her bred, the kids would really enjoy the babies at least until we had to find them new homes... (Would you have a male guinea pig you could offer as "stud"? Hehe.)

Since both kids are super active, a dog would like be better - could go out for walks etc. Tho' also takes work and commitment, which is why I am still very much THINKING.

Would have any recommendations for a good breed of dog for a family with young(ish) active children? One that doesn't require much grooming and will be gentle, tolerate "abuse" from eager kids (though old enough to know not to pull hair etc), not dominating, relatively easy to train, and kind of mid-sized - not too big and not too small.

I like labs, but they're a bit big for my taste (and the space we have). Saw a labradoodle at the pet shop the other day and have been wondering whether that would be a good mix and a bit smaller.

    Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
